Have you ever heard of the Oldest Democratic Village of world? Malana village in kullu district of Himachal Pradesh is the Oldest Democratic Village of World! Yes it is!!😍
Malana village of Himachal Pradesh is totally Corona free Village till now. It is because outsiders are not allowed there nowadays and the villagers also do not goes beyond their boundary. Let's know more about that village☺:-
Brief Introduction of Malana valley:- Malana is an Indian village in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located in the north-east of Kullu Valley, a side valley of the Parvati Valley, which is next to the Parvati River, that originates from Man Talai Glacier below the Pin Parbati pass. The peaks of Chanderkhani and Deo Tibba shadow the village. It is situated at a height of 2,652 metres. Malana has its own rituals, lifestyle and social structure and people are strict in following their customs. These people call themselves descendants of Alexander.
v Way to go there:- This place is located in the north west direction of Kullu district. You can go there via Kullu to Manikaran road. Prior to Kasol Pass, Jari is the place from where you can have to take the left way to Malana Valley. Malana village is approximately 12-14 kms from Jari. That would be a link road, even taxies usually runs on that way regularly. Nirang velly is in front of the Malana Vally where you can go through vehicle after that you have to go on foot because there is no other than option to go there. This would probably be a tiresome but awesome trip.

Which are the best seasons to visit there?
In the months of December to February, this place remains snow covered and late July and August are the months of monsoon in Northern India. It rains heavily in Himachal during these months, landslides are common in hilly area and the rivers also has high water levels. Hence, it is better to avoid traveling to high altitude hill stations during winter and monsoon season. So, I will suggest trips between March to July and September to December to Malana valley.
They have their own Democracy:-
It is said that the world first got democracy from here. People do not follow the Constitution of India and keep their thousands of years old tradition. In ancient times, some rules were made in this village, these rules were later changed to the parliamentary system, village's own parliamentary system.
This village has two houses of its own. Lower house called the Kanishthang and an upper house called the Jayeshthang. These terms are their own terms for ruling of village. The big house has a total of 11 members, out of which 8 members are elected from among the villagers, while three other kardars, gurus and priests are permanent members. The eldest person represents the house. They have their own laws to maintain law and order.Although the government does not interfere there normally.
Settlements of any type of Cases by Jamlu Devta:- Every kind of decisions are settled in Malana village Panchayat, but if there is a case that is difficult to understand, then this case is sent to the last stop. The decision of Jamlu Devta is final.
Jamlu Devta :- Jamlu Devta is considered the father of Lord Parshuram. The villagers of there consider Jamlu Rishi as their chief deity. The decision of Jamlu Devta is considered to be true and final. No one can raise questions on that final decision, because they believe that the decision has been given by Jamlu Devta himself. People believe that Emperor Akbar wanted to test Jamlu Rishi, after which Jamlu Rishi had snowed in Delhi. Another interesting fact is that these people call themselves descendants of Alexander.
Restrictions to visitor for touching anything
There is no facility for tourists to stay in this village also. Tourists spend the night outside the village putting up their tents. Apart from this, there are many other secrets in this quaint village, which attract the attention of the people towards this village. They have their own rituals. In this village full of mystery, outsiders are banned from touching anything. You have to put off your shoes out of the village. You can’t touch the idols in their temples, they have clearly mentioned in their notices that there would be penalty of Rs.1000 and more if you touch any of the article in the village. Despite the prohibition of touching any luggage, this place attracts tourists. People coming from outside cannot touch the goods of the shops. If tourists have to buy some food items, then they keep the money outside the shop and the shopkeeper also keeps the goods on the ground.
Culture and Lifestyle:- There is a myth prevailing that Malanis have distinct physical feature and they might use very difficult language. But being a part of Kullu District, there are a significant number of distinct Pahadi languages; it varies from each other place to place. Hence, myths cannot be proven and people of the Malana valley are normal pahadi as people of the rest of Kullu valley, except for the trade of Marijuana / Hashish in the Parvati valley. Most of the household chores are accomplished by the women of Malana Valley.
Clothing:- They used to wear the cotton clothes made of wool because the higher peaks of the valley remains snow covered in the half of the year. They use wool for making clothes from their Domestic Animals like Sheep, Yak etc.
